Welcome!

I’m Laurine Verrilli

As a Nurse Practitioner practicing in Primary Care I was often frustrated by the limited amount of time I had to spend with my patients during a visit. After performing an exam and reviewing and prescribing medications, there was little if any time left to discuss things such as lifestyle changes and nutrition that are just as important in treating chronic illness.

I know from both professional and personal experience how impactful taking an active role in one’s own health can be in achieving better health. I’ve always encouraged my patients to be their own health advocates.

Several years ago I started to experience debilitating migraines which led me on my own journey in search of better health. In addition to conventional medicine, this included incorporating diet changes, stress reduction, meditation and exploring complimentary therapies. My personal experiences in addition to my professional background sparked my interest in Health Coaching.

After more than 25 years in practice I decided to make a change in my professional life by becoming an Integrative Health Coach. I focus on the importance of balance in the areas of relationships, nutrition, physical activity, career, and spirituality in order to achieve long-lasting behavioral changes essential for health. I am passionate about helping clients who may be living with an ongoing health condition or with chronic illness gain the knowledge and confidence to become more active participants in their care and reach their own personal health goals. As a health coach, I provide support which enables clients to make a substantial positive impact on their health, reduce their symptoms and simply feel better every day.

About Wellness

Wellness encompasses many forms – It’s the food you eat, the way you move your body, your connection with other people and your daily routines.

A healthy lifestyle is a valuable resource for reducing the incidence and impact of health problems, for recovery, for coping with life stressors, and for improving quality of life.

Do you wake up with enthusiasm for the day ahead? Do you have the high energy you need to do what you want? Do you laugh easily and often, especially at yourself? Do you confidently find solutions for the challenges in your life? Do you feel valued and appreciated? Do you appreciate others and let them know it? Do you have a circle of warm, caring friends? Do the choices you make every day get you what you want?

Facts about Chronic Illness

  • Half of patients leave primary care visits not understanding what has been told to them.
  • An estimated 133 million Americans – nearly half of the population – suffer from at least one chronic illness such as obesity, hypertension and arthritis.
  • Chronic diseases are defined broadly as, conditions that last 1 year or more and require ongoing medical attention or limit activities of daily living or both.
  • Chronic disease such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States.
  • Chronic diseases can affect a person’s quality of life and independence as they age.
  • Health Coaching “results in clinically relevant improvement in blood pressure, cholesterol levels, fasting glucose, body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, and cardiorespiratory fitness in diverse populations.” Coaching has also helped improve health-related quality of life and reduced hospital admissions in patients with chronic disease.

About Health Coaching

A health coach is your personal health cheerleader, guide, and partner. They help you implement lifestyle changes to improve your physical health. The service is often available through corporate wellness programs. Your doctor may also recommend health coaching if you have a chronic health issue like diabetes.

People tend to hire health coaches to help them with a broad variety of health issues, such as weight loss, stress reduction, the management of chronic conditions, improving diet and exercise, tobacco cessation, addiction, and adjusting to a life-altering health event, like a heart attack. There is overlap between what a health coach does and what a life coach does, but a life coach’s domain is much broader, and includes career issues, executive coaching, and professional effectiveness.
